Volunteer FAQ

How much time will I spend volunteering?

As much time as you want! Rocky Hill Fire Department understands that you may have other commitments, such as school or a full-time job, and is appreciative of any amount of time that you are willing to dedicate.

How good is the training that your department offers?

Rocky Hill Fire Department’s preeminent training drills prepare firefighters to respond to a myriad of emergencies. Training includes fire suppression, search and rescue, rapid intervention team and swift water rescue. Rocky Hill Fire Department also supports volunteers with the opportunity to develop their skills more closely at both the Somerset and Mercer County Fire Academies at no cost.

Do I need any experience?

No! Rocky Hill Fire Department is dedicated to thoroughly training new members and providing them with gear at no cost.

What if I want to volunteer, but don’t want to fight fires?

You don’t have to! Individuals can assist the fire department in plenty of ways that don’t require being on the front lines of an emergency. Associate members who serve as administrative volunteers assist with representing the fire department at community events, fundraising, website maintenance, social media updates and more!

Can high school students join?
